Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Squint ("the App", "we", "us"), developed and operated by Marcus Otterstad, Bergen, Norway ("the Developer"), collects, uses, and safeguards information when you use the App. By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

1. Information We Collect

Photos you submit for generation. When you use the App's AI repaint feature, a downscaled copy of your selected photo, together with any text prompt you enter, is transmitted over an encrypted connection (TLS) to our server infrastructure and forwarded to third-party AI providers (OpenAI and Google, via the OpenRouter platform) solely for the purpose of generating your painted reference image. Photos are processed ephemerally: they are not stored on our servers and are retained only for the duration required to produce the result. If you use the "Skip the AI" or blank-canvas features without generation, your photos do not leave your device.

Usage data and diagnostics. We collect anonymous usage events (such as whether a generation started, succeeded, or failed, and which features are used) and crash reports through Google Firebase (Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics). This data is associated with a randomly generated device identifier and cannot be linked to your name, email address, or identity. The App does not require or support user accounts.

Purchase information. Subscriptions are processed entirely by Google Play (or the Apple App Store on iOS). We do not receive or store your payment details. The App receives only a confirmation of whether a subscription is active.

2. Information Stored on Your Device

Your paintings, source photos, color palettes, settings, and generation counters are stored locally on your device only. Deleting a painting in the App, or uninstalling the App, permanently removes this data. We hold no copies.

3. How We Use Information

We use the information described above exclusively to (a) provide the App's core functionality, including AI image generation; (b) maintain and improve the App's stability and user experience; and (c) process subscription entitlements. We do not sell personal information, do not serve advertising, and do not share data with any third party beyond the service providers named in this policy.

4. Third-Party Services

The App relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy: OpenRouter (AI request routing), OpenAI and Google (AI image and text generation), Google Firebase (analytics and crash reporting), and Google Play Billing (subscriptions).

5. Data Retention

Photos submitted for generation are processed transiently and are not retained by us. Anonymous analytics and crash data are retained by Google Firebase in accordance with Firebase's standard retention periods. Data stored on your device remains under your control at all times.

6. Security

All network communication between the App and our servers uses industry-standard TLS encryption. API credentials are held server-side and are never embedded in the App.

7. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including under the GDPR if you are in the European Economic Area), you may have rights to access, correct, or request deletion of personal data. Because the App operates without accounts and holds no server-side copies of your content, most data is already under your direct control on your device. 9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version will always be published at this address with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
