Squint is made by Marcus Otterstad, an independent developer in Norway. The app works without an account, and it collects as little as it can get away with. This page explains exactly what happens with your data.

Photos you generate from

When you ask Squint to repaint a photo, a downscaled copy of that photo is sent over an encrypted connection to our server, which passes it to AI providers (OpenAI and Google, via OpenRouter) to produce the painted study. The photo is used only to generate your result and is not stored on our server. The generated painting is sent back to your device and saved there.

If you use "Photo as-is" or a blank canvas without generation, nothing leaves your device.

What stays on your device

Your paintings, photos, color palettes, settings and generation counters are stored locally on your phone. Deleting a painting in the app, or uninstalling the app, deletes them. We have no copy.

Purchases

Subscriptions are handled entirely by Google Play (and by the App Store on iOS). We never see your payment details. Play tells the app only whether a subscription is active.

What we don't do

No accounts. No ads. No analytics or tracking SDKs. No selling or sharing of data with anyone beyond the AI providers needed to generate your painting.

Children

Squint is not directed at children under 13.

Changes and contact

If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this address with a new effective date.
